The Chilli potato recipe is a starter item. In Indian restaurants, Chilli potato is very popular and these are eaten as a good appetizer. Chilli potato can be served without any side item but chilli potato can serve as a side item in some recipes like Hakka noodles, veg noodles, fried rice etc.
Chilli potato recipe is like Chilli Mushroom, Chilli Chicken, and Chilli Gobi. The best part of this recipe is you can get sour, sweet, and spicy tastes in one recipe.
You can add more or fewer sauces quantity to make sour, sweet or spicy chilli potatoes.
Chilli potato has various versions. According to the consistency of the sauce, you may categories chilli potato into two i.e
dry chilli potato and gravy chilli potato.
The Chilli potato recipe can be customized according to your family’s taste. That means you can add less or more sauce to get a spicy, sour, sweet taste. Which types of chilli potato you want depends on how much sauce and which sauce you add to fried potatoes. In this way, you can adjust sour and sweet and spicy chilli potatoes.

How to make Chilli Potatoes Recipe
The Chilli potato recipe is very easy to prepare and also very good in taste. It is eye-catching in looks. This is a starter item. The main ingredient of chilli potato is crispy potato pieces. To get crispy potatoes we have to deep fry potato pieces which are coated with all-purpose flour and rice flour or cornflour. The second main ingredient is the sauce. This sauce contains red chilli sauce, tomato sauce, soya sauce, sugar, and salt. These sauces are tempered with oil, garlic, onion square pieces, green chilli slices and capsicum square pieces.
So, I divided this Chilli potato recipe preparation into two steps.

Ingredients for Potato fry
Potatoes —————- 4 no(medium size)
All-purpose flour——–1/2 tbsp
Corn flour—————-3 tbsp
Rice flour—————-1 tbsp
Salt as per your taste
Oil for deep-fry
Ingredients for sauce
Red Chilli sauce—————1 tbsp
Soya sauce———————-1 tbsp
Tomato sauce——————-2-3 tbsp
Onion julienne——————-1no
Garlic chopped——————2 tbsp
Spring onion(chopped) ——-2tbsp
Capsicum julienne ————1/2 no
Green chilli chopped————2no
Black pepper———————1/2 tsp
Sesame seeds——————-1tbsp
Oil for sauce making
Salt as per taste
Procedure for potato sticks recipe
- Wash potatoes properly.
- Peel the potatoes.
- Cut potatoes into half inches slices to get half by half inches potato sticks.
- Immerse these potato pieces in the water for 4-5 minutes.
- Then drain out this water to remove starch from potato pieces.
- Take a bowl add all these potato pieces into the bowl then add 1/2 tbsp of all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp of cornflour, 2 tsp of rice flour and add a little bit of salt and then sprinkle a little amount of water.
- Mix all flour with the potato to make a coat over the Potato piece.
- Put Kadai or Pan on the gas.
- Add oil to deep fry.
- Heat the oil in a medium flame.
- When oil becomes heated then add one batch of potato pieces.
- Fry like light golden in colour and crispy in the outer layer of the potatoes.

- Take out these potatoes from the oil after light golden colour comes into the potatoes

- Prepare all the potatoes fried like this batch.
- We should again do a flash fry of all these potatoes. For that, you should deep fry all these fried potato pieces for 1 minute on high flame to get golden colour crispy potato pieces.
- Don’t make the heavy brown colour.
- Now, these potatoes are becoming more crispy than previous.
- Now fried potatoes are ready.
Procedure for sauce preparation
- Put a saucepan or Kadai on the gas.
- Add 2 tbsp of oil into the pan.
- Add 1 tbsp of raw sesame seeds into the oil. Let the seeds fry.
- Then add chopped garlic, green chillies slices, and chopped spring onions into the pan.
- Saute for 30 seconds.
- Now add tomato sauce, and red chilli sauce and mix very well.
- Now mix all the sauce sauces.
- Then add soya sauce. Now add a little amount of water to make the sauce thin. It also helps to prevent sauce to burn.
- Now add onion juliennes, and capsicum slices and mix well.
- Now add black pepper pwd and salt.
- In this stage, the sauce becomes very thick so add a little amount of water.
- Water makes thin consistency of the sauce. Now cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Now take 1/2 cup water and 1/2 tbsp of cornflour to make a batter.
- Now add this batter into the sauce to get a sauce-like consistency and cook for one to two minutes then a sauce-like consistency comes.
- After the two-minute the sauce is ready.

Now cook for 1 minute.

Now serve hot chilli potatoes.
Tips for best chilli potatoes
You can prepare the best chilli potatoes by following these few steps. Chilli Potato has two parts one is the sauce and the other is fried potatoes.
If potato fried is perfect and the sauce is perfect then your chilli potato will be also perfect.
For the perfect chilli, the potato follows these steps.
- Use always 1 tbsp of rice flour with all-purpose flour and cornflour. It makes your fried potato very crispy.
- Don’t fry till golden the first time.
- After all the potatoes are fried make a flash fry. For flash fry, you fry potatoes for one minute on a high flame.
- Use cornflour and water to balance the consistency of the sauce.
- If your sauce is thick then add water or if your sauce is very thin then add batter of water and cornflour.
How to serve chilli potato
Generally, the chilli potatoes recipe is a starter recipe you can serve dish alone. Chilli potatoes no need any side item to serve but they can serve as a side item in the various recipe. You can serve this chilli potato as a side item of veg biryani, chicken biryani, mutton biryani, egg biryani, noodles, Hakka noodles, fried rice, jeera rice etc.
